Rain Alert For Karnataka This Weekend? Bengaluru To Stay Dry, Showers Likely In South TN Dists On Feb 21–22

Weather conditions across South India are expected to remain uneven over the next few days, with Karnataka likely to stay dry, while parts of Tamil Nadu may receive rainfall through the weekend.

Karnataka Weather Forecast

Several parts of Karnataka will not receive rainfall today, as dry weather conditions are expected to persist across coastal, north interior and south interior regions of the state. This dry spell has already continued for several days and is likely to prevail for a few more days, according to the Meteorological Department.

Dry weather will continue across South Interior districts including Mysuru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Chamarajanagar, Kolar, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Ballari, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Mandya, Chitradurga, Davangere and Vijayanagara.

Similarly, North Interior Karnataka districts such as Belagavi, Bidar, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Haveri, Gadag, Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir are expected to remain dry today.

The coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada are also likely to witness dry weather conditions.

Bengaluru Weather Today

Bengaluru is expected to remain dry, with clear skies prevailing through the day. The minimum temperature is likely to be around 17°C, while the maximum may reach 31°C. No rainfall activity is expected in the city in the immediate term.

Tamil Nadu Weather: Rain Likely In Southern Districts

In contrast, parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive rainfall starting Friday (February 21), as an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours and move northwestwards.

On Friday, heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar and Theni districts, while light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places across other parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Rainfall activity is expected to continue on Saturday (February 22), with heavy rain likely to occur over Dindigul and Madurai districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places across Tamil Nadu during the weekend.

Will It Rain In Chennai?

Chennai is expected to remain dry in the short term, with no immediate rainfall forecast. Mist or haze is likely to prevail during the early morning hours, which may affect visibility.

However, over the next 14 days, light rainfall may occur at isolated places in Chennai, although widespread rain is not expected at this stage.

ECMWF 14-Day Outlook

Model forecasts indicate that another low-pressure area may form near Sri Lanka, which could sustain rainfall activity over parts of Tamil Nadu over the next 7 to 14 days.

Districts such as Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Madurai are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, while western districts including Erode and Coimbatore may witness moderate rain. Delta districts like Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur could also receive scattered rainfall during this period.

While Karnataka is expected to remain largely dry over the next few days, rainfall activity will likely remain active across southern districts of Tamil Nadu through the weekend, depending on the movement and intensity of the developing low-pressure system.
