Delayed rains NDA 2's first challenge
Bangalore, May 21: The first experimental real-time monsoon forecast of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) has predicted delayed advancement of monsoon across the nation, a Times of India report said.
As a result, the first spell of rainfall will be less than adequate, the report said.

Normally, the south-west monsoon arrives in Kerala by June 1 and reaches central India by June 12. This year, the monsoon is scheduled to reach Kerala by June 3, causing harm to the initial period of sowing, said sources in the IITM.

The monsoon, particularly the first one, is crucial for a new government and the NDA government, which is set to assume responsibility under the leadership of Narendra Modi in a few days, will be aware about the news of the delayed advancement of the monsoon this year.

The first year of the previous UPA II regime also witnessed a bad monsoon

The UPA government, which came to power for the second successive term in 2009, also faced a similar situation as the monsoon record of that year was the third worst since 1901. Even in the early 1970s, the government of the mighty Indira Gandhi was rattled by a bad monsoon and its impact on the economy.
