Wife Swapping Case In Bengaluru: Woman Files Complaint Against Husband

A woman in Bengaluru has filed a complaint against her husband at the Basavanagudi Women's Police Station, accusing him of pressuring her into engaging in wife swapping and subjecting her to harassment and assault. The alleged incident sheds light on a disturbing trend that appears to be gaining traction in the city, echoing a similar issue that emerged in Kerala a few years ago.

The complainant, who married her husband Purnachandra in Bengaluru a year ago, alleges that he has been forcing her to spend time with his friend. When she refused, she claims to have been subjected to physical abuse and harassment. The complaint further mentions that Purnachandra and his family members have been demanding dowry around 10 lakhs to clear his marriage-related debts. Despite providing 2 lakhs, the couple faced continuous pressure regarding the remaining amount. The woman also accuses Purnachandra of showing her an obscene video and forcing her to socialize with his friends, leading to further distress and fear.

An FIR has been lodged against Purnachandra and his family members based on the woman's complaint. The police are investigating the matter and gathering evidence.

The term 'wife swapping' refers to a harmful practice where spouses are exchanged at social gatherings. This practice, prevalent in some Western countries, involves wives expected to engage with friends' husbands and vice versa. While this behavior has been more prevalent abroad, it garnered attention in Kerala a few years ago and now appears to have emerged in Bengaluru as well.
