Why Zerodha CEO Nikhil Kamath Is Searching for Bengaluru's Changemakers with Rs 50 Lakh in Grants
In an effort to spur innovation and positive change within India's tech capital, Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, has initiated the 'Namma Bengaluru Challenge—2024’. This unique challenge aims to engage the city's bright minds in devising practical, scalable solutions to improve urban living. Kamath has pledged a substantial grant of ₹50 lakh to support individuals who present groundbreaking ideas that promise to enhance Bengaluru's future.

The challenge seeks to harness the creative potential of Bengaluru's residents, encouraging them to step forward with ideas that could make significant strides in city development. Nikhil Kamath expressed his affinity for Bengaluru in a post on X, stating, "Bangalore has given me everything I have. This city, with all its challenges, has a unique resilience. I trust that Bangaloreans, especially the ones brainstorming in cafés and late-night workspaces, can find solutions to anything. We need more changemakers to step up and shape Bengaluru's future." This sentiment underscores the challenge's aim to empower local innovators to contribute to their city's progress.
Getting Involved in the Namma Bengaluru Challenge
For those interested in participating, the process of application is straightforward. Potential changemakers are invited to submit their proposals through the official website, https://www.unboxingblr.com/namma-bengaluru-challenge, detailing the project's goals, the issues it aims to address, and the envisioned solution. A short video, no longer than five minutes, should accompany applications to articulate the importance of the solution for Bengaluru. Following this, a selection panel will review submissions, conducting virtual interviews with shortlisted candidates to explore their ideas further. Successful participants will then receive grants to implement their proposals.
Part of the larger BLR Hubba and UnboxingBLR's city-wide festival, an event scheduled for December 13 at the Bangalore International Centre will showcase the selected ideas. Here, finalists will have the opportunity to present their plans to an esteemed jury, further highlighting the initiative's commitment to fostering community engagement and innovative thinking in addressing urban challenges.
