Why The Price Of Dals Are Soaring In Karnataka? Check Latest Rates In Bengaluru
The residents of Karnataka are grappling with the persistent increase in pulse prices. Notably, the cost of tur dal has surged from Rs 100 to Rs 185, prompting growing concerns among the people.
While people have gotten some relief from volatile vegetable prices, they are now bearing the burden of rising costs when it comes to essential pulses.

The Reason Behind The Price Rise
In the districts of Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadgiri, Vijayapura, and Rayachuri in the state, the annual crop yield of 60 lakh quintals has declined to 35 lakh quintals due to a combination of factors including crop diseases, floods, and climatic fluctuations. This reduction in yield is one of the contributing factors to the price increase.
As a preventive measure, several other states have taken the initiative to make advance purchases in large quantities. Consequently, this has resulted in a scarcity, causing a surge in prices.
Talking about the price rise, the failed rain is the cause of price hike in pulses, Dharmesh, a trader from Bengaluru Agriculture Marketing Committee (APMC), told IANS.
"It is feared that Monsoon may fail this year and prices may see a steady rise. The hopes are for the second half of the rainy season and the farmers will have to reap good second crop in November and December. The prices will remain more or less upwards for a year. The tur dal is fetching Rs 140 per kilogram in the wholesale market," he told earlier.
The state government had earlier imposed a limit on stocks by traders to prevent the exorbitant price hike in the retail market. It is said that stockists are holding back pulses from entering the market in anticipation of further price increases and in pursuit of higher profits.
