Why Did Google Name Its New Bengaluru Campus ‘Ananta’? What Does It Mean?

Google has officially inaugurated its fourth campus in India, Ananta, in Bengaluru, one of the world's fastest-growing tech hubs. The name Ananta, derived from Sanskrit, translates to "infinite" or "limitless", reflecting Google's commitment to innovation and expansion. The company describes this development as a crucial step in its mission to create products tailored not only for India but also for the global market.

A Cutting-Edge Workspace

Google s Ananta Campus in Bengaluru

Developed in collaboration with Google India and local design teams, Ananta is one of Google's most ambitious ground-up projects in India. The campus features a sculpted, fluid facade and includes one of the largest electrochromic glass installations in the country. Designed to foster collaboration, each floor is structured into interconnected "neighborhoods", similar to a city grid, allowing for seamless teamwork while ensuring dedicated spaces for focused work.

At the heart of the campus lies "Sabha", a central gathering space designed for community events, informal collaborations, and town hall meetings. This space is intended to bring together employees and teams, fostering a sense of community and innovation.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

Google has ensured that Ananta is designed to be fully inclusive and accessible. The campus incorporates tactile flooring for the visually impaired, braille signage, and accessible amenities, making it a welcoming space for all employees.
Sustainability at the Core

Emphasising environmental responsibility, the Ananta campus integrates several eco-friendly features:

  • A large landscaped garden with walking paths and jogging trails
  • A water recycling system that processes 100% of wastewater
  • Rainwater harvesting systems to ensure sustainable water use
  • Smart glass technology to optimize energy efficiency

With the launch of Ananta, Google further solidifies its presence in Bengaluru, reinforcing the city's role as India's premier tech hub. The new campus is set to play a pivotal role in driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and shaping products for both local and global markets.
