Whitefield-Challaghatta Purple Metro Line To Be Operational After September 15
The entire stretch of the Purple Line, from Whitefield to Challaghatta, is set to commence operations on September 15, as announced by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), responsible for operating 'Namma Metro' in the city. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is scheduled to conduct inspections on the Baiyappanahalli-KR Puram (2.1km) and Kengeri-Challaghatta (2km) sections before these segments are opened for public use, as reported by Moneycontrol, quoting BMRCL Managing Director Anjum Parwaz.
The BMRCL is currently finalising pending construction at the Benniganahalli station situated between KR Puram and Baiyappanahalli. Subsequently, new metro stations along the Purple Line will be put into operation following approval from the CMRS.

The introduction of the metro link between KR Puram and Baiyappanahalli aims to cater to the daily commute of numerous passengers, particularly tech professionals traveling to Mahadevapura, ITPB, and Kadugodi. Additionally, this line will provide professionals with convenient access to the Challaghatta and Kengeri areas, known for their affordable rental options.
Currently, an end-to-end journey on the Purple Line takes approximately 76 minutes, with a fare of Rs 60. The operational length of the Purple Line stands at 39.4 km, serving over 6.2 lakh commuters regularly. With the pending stretches of the Purple Line set to be operational, the daily ridership is expected to exceed 7 lakh in the near future.
