When Will Karnataka Schools Open Again After the Holidays?

Schools in Bengaluru are currently closed after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared holidays for all government and government-aided schools in Karnataka.

The decision was made so that teachers can complete the Social and Educational Survey, commonly known as the caste survey, which is being carried out across the state.

The survey began on September 22 and was initially scheduled to end on October 7. However, due to delays in several districts, the deadline has now been extended to October 18, 2025.

"We planned to finish the survey by 7 October. But while some districts are nearly done, others are still behind," the Chief Minister said.

In Koppal district, 97% of the work is done, while Udupi (63%), Dakshina Kannada (60%), and Bengaluru (34%) are still lagging.

Over 1.6 lakh government employees are currently engaged in the Social and Educational Survey, including around 1.2 lakh teachers and 40,000 other staff members. Teachers conducting mid-term exams in Pre-University Colleges have been exempted from survey duties.

In Bengaluru alone, around 6,700 teachers are assisting in completing the survey.

The Karnataka Teachers' Association and Congress MLC Puttanna requested the Chief Minister to grant additional time to complete the process. Following consultations with the State Commission for Backward Classes, the Education Department declared a temporary school holiday.

To compensate for the academic days lost during the break, the government has directed that special classes be organised once schools reopen.

So, when will Bengaluru schools Open?

Schools are expected to reopen after October 18, but with Diwali falling on October 20 and 21, classes are likely to resume after the festival.
