Water Bills Skyrocket For Bengaluru Residents: BWSSB Faces Backlash Over Billing Accuracy
Consumers across Bengaluru are expressing frustration with the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) due to inflated water bills over the past few months. Reports indicate that water bills have been steadily increasing for the last three to four months, with no official explanation from the board.

Citizens are questioning the legitimacy of these hikes, alleging that the BWSSB might be overcharging them. Despite attempts to conserve water, consumers report inflated bills, with meter readings showing higher consumption than usual. The additional charges range from ₹300 to ₹600, causing widespread shock and outrage among the public.
Allegations of Overcharging
Many consumers have claimed discrepancies in their bills despite reducing water usage. Concerns are rising about potential technical issues with the water meters or intentional overcharging by the board. The lack of communication from BWSSB has added to the public's frustration.
Vijaya from Kavika Layout, Mysore Road, was shocked to find her bill jump from ₹440 to ₹548, while Bhagya from Hosahalli reported a spike from ₹1,500 to ₹2,100.
Similarly, homemaker Sujata, also from Hosahalli, faced an additional ₹600 burden, with her bill rising to ₹1,800.
These unexpected surges have left residents feeling overburdened and questioning the transparency of BWSSB's billing practices. Many are now demanding immediate action to address the issue and ensure fair charges moving forward.
Concerns Over Free Guarantee Schemes
Some consumers have linked the rising bills to free guarantee schemes, blaming them for the additional financial burden on regular water users.
With the issue impacting thousands of residents, citizens are demanding immediate intervention from the BWSSB to address these discrepancies. Clear communication, a review of billing practices, and transparency regarding meter readings are being urged to restore public trust and prevent further unrest.
As Bengaluru grapples with this issue, the BWSSB is yet to issue an official statement or provide clarity on the complaints raised. Residents continue to await action to resolve the inflated billing problem.
