Virat Kohli's Bengaluru Pub One8 Commune Receives BBMP Notice For Fire Safety Violations

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a notice to One8 Commune, a bar and restaurant co-owned by cricket star Virat Kohli, for violating fire safety regulations.

Located on the sixth floor of Ratnams Complex on Kasturba Road near MG Road, the establishment has come under the scanner for operating without mandatory fire safety measures or a clearance certificate from the fire department.

The notice was issued following a complaint by social activist Venkatesh, prompting action from Shantinagar BBMP officials. Despite being served an earlier notice, the pub failed to respond, leading the BBMP to warn of legal action if no reply is submitted within seven days.

This isn't the first time One8 Commune has faced regulatory trouble.

An FIR was previously registered at the Cubbon Park Police Station after the Virat Kohli-owned pub was found operating beyond permitted hours during a police night patrol. The establishment reportedly remained open past 1 am, violating city regulations, and played loud music, sparking complaints from nearby residents.

Highlighting broader concerns, Venkatesh noted, "Many restaurants, bars, and pubs in high-rise buildings across Bengaluru operate without fire safety measures. Past incidents like the Carlton Towers fire have resulted in tragic losses of life and injuries."

One8 Commune, which opened its Bengaluru branch in December 2023, is part of a chain with outlets in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Spread across three floors with bohemian-inspired decor, the restaurant offers a luxurious dining experience, with window-side seats providing partial views of a cricket field.
