Viral Post Sparks Debate Over Kannada Language In Bengaluru: 'Should I Learn Their Languages, Or...'?

The ongoing debate over the Kannada language has resurfaced, particularly in Bengaluru, a city known for its diverse population. Recently, a woman's post on X about the language issue went viral, amassing 1.5 million views.

In her post, the woman shared her experience in Bengaluru, stating that the supermarket staff and grocery shop owner near her residence all come from different states, and questioned whether she should learn the languages of all these states.

"I am in Bangalore. My apartment security guard is a Tamilian, nearby grocery shop is owned by a Bihari, supermarket staff are Malayalis, fancy store owner is from Rajasthan, now should I learn their languages to converse with them or is it vice versa?" the woman tweeted.

'Karnataka won't object'

Her post gained widespread attention, sparking amusing responses from netizens who offered their own suggestions for handling the language problem.

"Use the foreign language. Karnataka won't object to that," one user joked, adding laughing emojis.

"Learn sign language, bestu!" said another user.

A third user responded: "You must learn Tamil, Bihari, Malayalam and Rajasthani, no questions asked."

However, some users criticised the woman, arguing that she should have already learned Kannada. One user pointed out that it was primarily people in IT, banking, and other offices who were reluctant to learn Kannada.

'Bengaluru is closed for North India...'

This wasn't the only viral post concerning the Kannada language issue. Another post, shared widely on X, featured a girl's video in which she claimed that "people in Bangalore hate North Indians."

She explained that North Indians were often referred to as "Hindi people," and auto drivers charged them higher fares.
