Video: Delhi slum kids start their own newspaper
Bangalore, Sept 10: They have no sophisticated crew or high-end cameras to capture high-profile personalities to keep their show running 24X7. They have no backing of a big brand either. But yet, they are not afraid to go pursue their goal of reaching out to the people with their stories and hence have brought out a newspaper by themselves!
Balaknama (Tale of the youngster) is a daily newspaper in New Delhi, which is brought out by slum children in New Delhi. The reporters, editors and contributors of the newspaper, all in their teens, redefine the social conventions and present their own stories that are often ignored by the corporate media, before the world. The stories also revolve around the tough lives of Balaknama journalists.
Chetna, an NGO, backs the initiative in monetary terms. The child reporters receive a stipend for travelling to cover their stories. The NGO also trains the amateur journalists.
