Traffic Update: High-Beam Headlight In Bengaluru
Alok Kumar, Karnataka's additional director general for traffic and road safety, highlighted the enforcement effort in a post, stating, "The heat is on with 1518 cases booked for violating Central Motor Vehicle Rules, which prohibit the use of glaring or dazzling LED headlights. Kudos to our Officers & men for sustained action," as reported by Hindustan Times.
Among these cases, Bengaluru alone accounted for 686 instances, while Mangaluru recorded 98 cases. The Karwar region reported 131 cases, although Udupi did not record any cases of this nature.
Bengaluru police have affirmed their commitment to ongoing enforcement, stressing that the crackdown will persist. They have issued warnings to violators who continue to use high-beam lights while driving, emphasizing strict adherence to traffic rules. Additionally, all motorists and riders have been instructed to comply with traffic regulations, with efforts made to raise awareness about the importance of following these rules, as per media reports.
Furthermore, responding to concerns raised by a Twitter handle called Third Eye, which suggested targeting shops selling unauthorized lighting accessories for bikes, authorities are considering broader actions. The handle raised questions about the accountability of automobile shops advertising and selling illegal LED lights, along with other prohibited items such as bull bars, sun films, and masked number plates.
This call for action particularly highlighted areas like JC Road in Bengaluru as hotspots for such activities, as reported by Hindustan Times. Overall, the enforcement actions by Bengaluru traffic police reflect a concerted effort to address public complaints and improve road safety by curbing the misuse of high-beam headlights and cracking down on the sale of unauthorized vehicle accessories.
