Udupi's Toilet Cam Incident: BJP Worker Arrested Over A Tweet On Siddaramaiah

A BJP worker has been arrested in Udupi for her tweet against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah in connection with the incident where three girls had placed a camera inside a washroom in a college.

In the Tweet, which has not been deleted yet, she had questioned whether the Congress would have called the incident a "child's play" if a such video was made on Siddaramaiah's wife or daughter-in-law.

As the tweet had gone viral, a complaint was filed at High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru following which the police arrested her.

The Row
An FIR was registered against three girl students of a paramedical college in Udupi over the alleged recording of a video of their fellow student in the college washroom. Three students, Shabhnaz, Alfiya and Aleema were arrested in connection with the incident.

The college administration has also been named in the FIR, which has been filed under sections 509, 204, 175, 34 and 66 (e) of the IT Act, sources told PTI.

A police statement said two separate suo motu cases have been registered regarding the video recording in the washroom of Netra Jyothi Institute of Allied Health Sciences.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara has dubbed the filming of the girl student in the restroom by fellow female students in a Udupi college as "a small incident blown out of proportion.

Hitting out at the BJP, he said they should stop blowing up these "small issues" simply for political reasons. They should keep in mind that there should be peace in society.

"Weren't these things happening in the past? Weren't these things happening in the past in colleges and universities? No one did politics then, why are they doing it now? There are many other works but they (BJP) never speak on them. They did not speak about drought, floods. BJP is doing petty politics. They should have other works. Now it appears that they don't have any other work," Parameshwara added.

National Commission for Women (NCW) member Khushbu Sundar, who visited Udupi on Thursday, said a thorough probe into the incident, before jumping to conclusions or giving it a communal angle.
