Uber Driver in Bengaluru Grabs Woman's Hand, Steals Phone Over Payment Issue

Following a recent incident involving an Ola driver, another woman in Bengaluru faced a distressing situation with an Uber driver. The driver seized her phone and demanded she change her online payment method.

The woman was travelling from Whitefield to Bannerughatta Road and opted for online payment. Upon entering the car, the driver insisted on cash or UPI payment, which she couldn't provide. Her husband explained, "She dropped her friend at her stop, arrived at our apartment gate and informed that payment was made through Uber Money and they couldn't change it to cash."

Driver's Aggressive Behaviour

This angered the driver, who then grabbed her hand and took her phone. He began complaining about not receiving the money despite her showing proof of payment. She tried to explain that the transaction was complete and even showed a screenshot as evidence.

"The auto driver got very angry and snatched her phone, she shouted and called the guards," added the husband.

Neighbours' Intervention

When she called for help, neighbours responded quickly and contacted the police. Despite their presence, the driver refused to return her phone for 30 minutes. Eventually, he handed it back but only after significant delay.

The woman and her husband went to the police station to file a formal complaint against the driver. The driver spent the night in custody following their report.

These incidents highlight ongoing safety concerns for women using ride-hailing services in Bengaluru. Ensuring passenger safety remains a critical issue that needs addressing by both companies and authorities.
