KSRTC, BMTC Employees Issue Strike Warning Over Unfulfilled Demands

In the heart of Bengaluru, transport workers are gearing up for a, motivated by the Karnataka government's failure to disburse 38 months of unpaid dues to employees of four key corporations, including KSRTC and BMTC.

Despite promises of a salary hike from January 2024, November arrived with no action taken. Furthermore, those who have retired are still awaiting their gratuity payments, totaling 399.29 crores out of a whopping 1750 crore rupees owed in arrears.

KSRTC BMTC Employees Issue Strike Warning

Transport leader Ananth Subbarao made a poignant appeal to the Chief Minister, recalling a previous strike that ended with a promise on the third day to meet their demands. "Earlier when you were CM, we went on strike for three days. Then on the third day you offered to fulfill our demand. Don't bring that situation this time," Subbarao stated, signaling the readiness of employees to strike once more. He stressed that the workforce's resolve is firm: the strike will persist until their demands are addressed, and the only step left is to set the strike date, pending government response.

Adding to the urgency, H.S. Manjunath, another prominent transport leader, emphasized the inescapable conclusion that a strike by the 1.15 lakh employees is inevitable. "Don't test your patience," he warned the government, underscoring the collective frustration over unmet demands for salary revision and overdue arrears. Manjunath's statement at a meeting of the joint action committee of six transport workers' unions highlighted the extensive efforts to communicate their grievances, including numerous letters and requests in meetings.

The upcoming strike threatens to halt the operations of buses across four major corporations, serving as a climax to the ongoing dispute over unpaid arrears and gratuities to retirees. This looming disruption underscores the workers' determination to secure their overdue financial entitlements. The situation leaves the state government with a critical decision to make, as the possibility of a widespread transport strike looms large.

As the transport workers' unions make their final preparations for action, the question remains on how the Karnataka government will address this escalating crisis. The transport employees' unwavering intent to strike in demand of their rights sends a clear message: the resolution of this dispute is crucial for restoring normalcy to the state's transport services and upholding the financial well-being of its workers.
