Tipu Jayanthi- Karnataka asks for additional central forces

In view of strong resistance to the government's move of making Tipu Jayanthi a state celebration special security and precautionary measures are being taken across the state.

Karnataka has sought 1,500 personnel from central security forces in view of Tipu Jayanthi celebrations on November 10. Union Home Ministry officials told OneIndia on Monday that a request for additional central forces was made by Karnataka government.

Come November 10 and Karnataka is all set to celebrate Tipu Jayanthi across the state amidst stiff opposition. In view of strong resistance to the government's move of making Tipu Jayanthi a state celebration special security and precautionary measures are being taken across the state.

For over a week now police department in sensitive districts of Kodagu and Dakshin Kannada have been on alert. Special vigil is being kept on lodges, hotels, homestays etc, CCTVs have been made compulsory in sensitive localities and additional checkposts have been set up along the borders of Kodagu.

Organisations from Kodagu that have staunchly opposed celebrations have decided to observe Tipu Jayanthi as a black day and have called for a Kodagu bandh on November 10.
