Tax Evasion Raids: Will Hoskote Biryani Be Available In Coming Days?

The Karnataka Commercial Tax Department officials raided meat and biryani hotels, suspecting tax evasion, and conducted searches at a total of seven biryani shops in Bengaluru's Hoskote.

It must be noted Hoskote, located approximately 30 kilometers from Bengaluru is a popular spot for late-night and early-morning drives, attracting numerous biryani enthusiasts.

Tax Evasion Raids: Will Hoskote Biryani Be Available In Coming Days?

During the operation, a substantial amount of cash, amounting to Rs 1.47 crore, was discovered in the possession of one of the hotel owners. The authorities swiftly seized this money. The owner was under scrutiny for alleged fraudulent practices related to Goods and Services Tax (GST). Further investigations during the search of his residence revealed an even larger sum of money.

Over 50 Commercial Tax Department officers, acting on information suggesting GST fraud by certain hotel owners near Hoskote, carried out searches at various locations, including Akshay Dham Biryani, Raj Dham Biryani, Mani Dham Biryani, Anand Dham Biryani, and Raj Dham Biryani, all within the jurisdiction of Hoskote Police Station.

It was revealed that these hotel owners had been conducting transactions using UPI payment accounts, thus evading tax payments. One hotel owner had a total of 30 QR codes, and it was apparent that they were not maintaining proper records of their sales transactions, indicating tax evasion.

These establishments are well-known and typically attract a steady flow of customers. However, it appears that they had been involved in fraudulent tax practices. In light of these findings, Commercial Tax Department officials conducted a raid on Raj Dham Biryani owner Srinivas and Raj, seizing a substantial sum of 1.4 crore rupees in cash.

Following these operations, cases have been registered against the biryani shop owners accused of tax evasion at a total of seven establishments. The fate of the seized cash and the continued availability of their popular dishes now hangs in the balance.
