SM Krishna Death: Mandya Schools Shut, Karnataka Announces State Holiday Tomorrow
Former Karnataka Chief Minister and veteran politician SM Krishna passed away on Tuesday (December 10) in the early hours at his residence in Bengaluru. He was 92 and had been unwell for some time, according to reports.
As a mark of respect for the late leader, educational institutions in Mandya district have been ordered to remain closed today, December 10, 2024.
The Karnataka government also declared a statewide holiday tomorrow to honor SM Krishna's contributions to the state and the nation. An official announcement regarding the state holiday was released later in the day.

SM Krishna, an influential figure in Karnataka politics, served as the Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004. Known for his efforts to modernize Bengaluru and attract global investments, Krishna left an indelible mark on the state's development. His demise has prompted an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, colleagues, and citizens across the country.
In Mandya, Krishna's birthplace, the closure of schools and colleges is a reflection of the district's deep connection to the leader. Residents and local leaders have come together to pay their respects and reminisce about his significant contributions to the region.
Last rites will be performed at Krishna's village Somanahalli in Mandya on Wednesday morning and government tributes will be released soon. Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in as Karnataka prepares to bid farewell to one of its most revered statesmen.
