SM Krishna Death: Holiday Declared In Karnataka; Schools, Colleges Closed On December 11
Former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna, 92, passed away at his residence in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, after a prolonged battle with age-related ailments. His demise has plunged the state into grief, prompting the Karnataka government to declare a three-day mourning period to honour the veteran leader's legacy.
As a mark of respect, a statewide government holiday has been announced for December 11, affecting all government offices, schools, and colleges. The holiday is intended to allow citizens to pay their final respects to the late leader.

Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar shared details about the funeral arrangements. Addressing the media, he revealed that SM Krishna's mortal remains would be available for public homage at his Bengaluru residence until 8 am on December 11. Following this, the body will be transported to his hometown of Maddur, where the public can pay their respects between 10 am and 3 pm.
SM Krishna's political journey began in 1962 when he won the Maddur Assembly seat as an Independent candidate. He joined the Congress in 1971 after a brief stint with the Praja Socialist Party. Over the decades, Krishna held several high-profile positions, including Governor of Maharashtra (2004-2008) and India's External Affairs Minister (2009-2012). In the later years of his career, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking a significant shift in his political path.
