Slapped Me, Forced To Sign Blank Pages: Kannada Actor Ranya Rao Alleges Custodial Torture
Kannada actor Ranya Rao, accused of smuggling gold, has alleged she is being tortured in jail. In a letter to the Additional Director General of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), she claimed she was coerced into signing numerous typed and blank pages. Rao also stated that she was deprived of sleep during her detention.
Ranya Rao, who is the stepdaughter of senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, insists on her innocence, stating she did not smuggle any gold. She further alleged that a DRI officer threatened to implicate her father if she refused to sign the documents. Her stepfather currently holds the position of Chairman and Managing Director at the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.

Gold Seizure at Airport
The DRI seized gold bars valued at Rs 12.56 crore from Ranya Rao at Kempegowda International Airport. This incident occurred when she arrived from Dubai on March 3. Following this, she was detained and is now held in Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru.
Ranya's allegations have raised concerns about potential misconduct by authorities during her detention. She claims that she was forced to sign between 50 to 60 typed pages and approximately 40 blank pages under duress.
Claims of Coercion
The actor's accusations include being physically assaulted and threatened with further implications involving her family members. These claims highlight serious issues regarding the treatment of detainees and raise questions about procedural integrity within law enforcement agencies.
