Luxury and politics have collided once more in Karnataka after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was spotted wearing a high-end Cartier timepiece worth Rs 43 lakh 20 thousand.

The sighting, which came during a casual breakfast meeting with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, has revived conversations about the Chief Minister's choices despite his long-held socialist positioning.

A Fresh Spotlight on the Cartier Santos

The Cartier Santos seen on Siddaramaiah is no ordinary model. He was wearing a large Santos de Cartier crafted entirely in 18K rose gold, a piece that sits at the top tier of the Santos lineup. The case and integrated bracelet retain the exposed-screw aesthetic inspired by the original 1904 design, keeping alive the aviation heritage associated with Alberto Santos-Dumont.

This reference uses Cartier's calibre 1847 MC, a self-winding movement that runs hours, minutes, central seconds and a date indicator at 6 o'clock. The silvered white dial features bold Roman numerals, a railway minute track, and blued sword hands, along with the signature blue cabochon crown.

Interestingly, the moment comes just weeks after Union Minister Chirag Paswan was seen wearing a Cartier Santos during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, though his was a more affordable variant.

Political leaders circulated images and raised allegations about improper disclosure and potential violations of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The debate dominated headlines for weeks.

Siddaramaiah initially dismissed the complaints but later clarified that the Hublot was a pre-owned gift from Dubai-based cardiac surgeon Dr Girish Chandra Varma and that its value was significantly lower than what was being suggested.
