SC To Review Bail Granted To Actor Darshan, 7 Others in Renukaswamy Murder Case

The Supreme Court is set to hear a petition on April 2, challenging the bail granted by the Karnataka High Court to actor Darshan and seven other accused in the Chitradurga Renukaswamy murder case.

The Karnataka High Court had previously granted bail to Darshan and the other accused. However, the Bengaluru police moved the Supreme Court against this decision, raising concerns over the case's legal implications.

Legal Battle Reaches Supreme Court

The appeal against the bail was originally scheduled for hearing on March 18, but it was not listed. As a result, Karnataka's special counsel, Anil Nishani, urged the court to schedule the hearing. Responding to this request, the Supreme Court set the hearing for April 2.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had acknowledged the petition and issued notices to Darshan and the other accused, seeking their response. To strengthen his legal defense, Darshan's family has appointed senior advocate Kapil Sibal to represent him. Reports indicate that all relevant documents and arguments presented in the High Court have been submitted for review.

Darshan's Bail and Case Background

Actor Darshan was released on interim bail on October 30, 2023, citing medical reasons, after spending 131 days in jail. Subsequently, on December 13, 2023, the Karnataka High Court granted him regular bail, along with prime accused Pavithra Gowda and other co-accused.
