S.M. Krishna Death: Ramya Remembers Mentor Who Brought Her Into Politics

S.M. Krishna, a stalwart of Indian politics and a former Chief Minister of Karnataka, passed away today at the age of 92. Born in 1932 in Somanahalli, Mandya district, Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna had a distinguished career in public service, serving as Chief Minister, Governor, and Union Minister for External Affairs.

S.M. Krishna began his political journey with the Congress party, where he played a pivotal role in shaping Karnataka's development. Later, in 2017, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) due to shifting political dynamics. Krishna was known for his visionary leadership and his contributions to modernizing Bengaluru into a global IT hub during his tenure as Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004.

In addition to his political career, Krishna served as the 19th Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008 and held the position of Union Minister for External Affairs from 2009 to 2012.

Actress Ramya Pays Heartfelt Tribute

Sandalwood actress and former MP Ramya (Divya Spandana) visited Krishna's Sadashivanagar residence to pay her last respects. Ramya shared a special bond with Krishna, who was instrumental in bringing her into politics.

"I am deeply hurt and not in a position to speak. My heartfelt condolences," Ramya said before leaving. Known to have addressed Krishna as "Uncle," she expressed profound respect and grief over his demise.

Krishna had been battling age-related ailments for some time. Initially admitted to Vaidehi Hospital for treatment, he was later moved to Manipal Hospital due to a lung infection. A team of doctors led by Dr. Satyanarayana Mysore and Dr. Sunil Karanth provided medical care during his final days.

After joining the BJP in March 2017, Krishna campaigned for the party during the 2018 Karnataka assembly elections. Following this, he gradually distanced himself from active politics but remained a respected figure across party lines.

As Karnataka and the nation mourn the loss of one of its towering leaders, tributes continue to pour in from political leaders, celebrities, and citizens alike. S.M. Krishna's contributions to Karnataka and Indian politics have left an indelible mark, ensuring his legacy will be remembered for generations.
