Stalled RR Nagar Flyover Turns Eyesore, Hosakerehalli Set to Open Soon
The long-pending RR Nagar flyover project, launched with much fanfare in 2022 to ease traffic near the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Arch, has remained stalled for nearly two years, turning into a symbol of civic apathy and political neglect.
The ₹71.4-crore project was envisioned to connect Kenchanahalli Road with Mysuru Road, reducing congestion at one of the busiest intersections in Bengaluru's southwest corridor. Initiated under former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai just before the 2023 Assembly elections, the flyover was designed with a 305-metre ramp and was originally slated for completion by June 2024.

Today, the half-built structure stands abandoned, and residents say it has become an eyesore and a dumping ground. The incomplete flyover has not only failed to ease traffic but has worsened bottlenecks near the Arch, particularly during peak hours.
"Every day, vehicles pile up near the RR Nagar Arch because of this unfinished work. What was meant to solve traffic has become a permanent bottleneck," said a commuter. "Authorities seem to have forgotten this project altogether."
Officials attribute the delay to administrative lapses and coordination issues between multiple civic agencies. However, residents argue that the lack of accountability and interest from local representatives has led to the prolonged standstill.
The public has expressed anger, demanding that the BBMP and the state government revive the project without further delay. Many believe the flyover is crucial not only for decongesting Mysuru Road but also for improving connectivity towards Kengeri and Nayandahalli.
Meanwhile, just a few kilometres away, the Hosakerehalli Flyover near PES College offers a contrasting picture. The 500-metre stretch, which connects Nayandahalli Junction to Banashankari, is finally nearing completion after years of hurdles. Officials have confirmed that 90 per cent of the work is complete and that the flyover is likely to open for trial traffic next week. Although construction began in August 2020 with a 15-month deadline, it dragged on for nearly five years, turning daily commuting into an ordeal. Many residents remain doubtful that the new flyover will bring substantial relief from traffic congestion.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has announced that the Hosakerehalli flyover will be inaugurated in mid-November, bringing much-needed relief to traffic congestion along the Outer Ring Road.
