Bangalore, March 30: Kannada writer, playwright and actor-director Girish Karnad joined Rohini Nilekani, wife of

, Congress candidate from Bangalore South constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha

, in her door-to-door

for her husband in JP Nagar area on Sunday.

The residents were ecstatic and expressed their strong support for the IT czar. A motorcyclist even stopped by to meet Rohini and expressed his pleasure in supporting Nandan Nilekani, whom he described as a clean and capable politician.

The campaign received warm response with people banking on Nandan's clean image

"We have never had a candidate like Nandan before in Bangalore. He has created a great company in Infosys, a platform in Aadhaar and brings many skill sets needed to change politics. We must all support him," said Karnad, a respected citizen of Bangalore.

Rohini Nilekani also went to Gandhi Bazaar and met several shoppers, flower vendors and shopkeepers on the eve of Ugadi. The response was overwhelmingly positive. One shopper said: "We hope this Ugadi will bring in a new era of good people like Nandan. We have lived here for so long and we have seen the problems. We want change for the better."
