Retired Karnataka DGP Murder: Schizophrenia Drove Her Fears, Son Defends Mother Accused of Killing Om Prakash

Former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash was stabbed to death by his wife, Pallavi, who has been suffering from schizophrenia for the last 12 years. For the unversed, Schizophrenia is a severe mental health disorder characterised by delusions and hallucinations, played a critical role in this tragic incident, which culminated in Om Prakash's death after being stabbed multiple times by his wife.

Delusional Behavior and Disturbing WhatsApp Messages

Om Prakash

Pallavi had been undergoing treatment for schizophrenia, a mental illness characterized by delusions and anxiety. Over the years, she had exhibited symptoms such as imagining threats and accusations. According to reports, Pallavi had expressed fears to her family members, claiming that her husband, Om Prakash, was holding a gun and threatening her life. However, these concerns were dismissed by the family due to her mental health condition.

Despite her ongoing treatment, Pallavi continued to send alarming messages to her relatives, warning them of threats from her husband. She even sent messages in an IPS officers' group from Om Prakash's mobile number, stating she was fearful for her life. Despite the warnings, Om Prakash reportedly did not take these concerns seriously, given his knowledge of his wife's condition.

A few days before the tragic incident, Pallavi had expressed her distress in a WhatsApp group, accusing her husband of torture and repeatedly arguing over property matters. In one message, she even suggested that people like Om Prakash should not be alive. This raised serious concerns, but no immediate action was taken by the family or authorities.

Pallavi further demanded that the police file a suo motu case against Om Prakash for his actions, but the situation seemed to have escalated unnoticed.

Om Prakash's Murder

Om Prakash, who had served as a senior officer in the police force and was known for solving high-profile murder cases, could never have predicted that he would meet such a brutal fate.

On the fateful day, Pallavi's delusions reached a violent peak. Om Prakash was stabbed between 8 to 10 times in his chest, stomach, and hands. The 68-year-old's body was found with injuries, raising suspicions of foul play. The attack was severe, and he reportedly struggled for 15 to 20 minutes before succumbing to his injuries. Despite his critical condition, Pallavi did not seek immediate medical help for him and instead tied a cloth over his face, leaving him to die.

While the police are continuing their investigation, Pallavi and their daughter Kriti have been taken into custody for questioning. The motive behind the murder is still unclear, but the delusional behavior associated with Pallavi's schizophrenia is seen as a key factor in the tragic incident. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.
