Renaming Of Hebbagodi Namma Metro Station To 'Biocon' Sparks Local Outcry

Locals in Hebbagodi protested on Monday, voicing their disapproval of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation's (BMRCL) decision to rename Hebbagodi metro station as "Biocon Hebbagodi."

Residents consider the name change disrespectful to the historic significance of Hebbagodi and a unilateral move by BMRCL, as neither the city council nor the public were consulted.

Hebbagodi Manjunath, a local resident, highlighted the urgent need for a skywalk within the Hebbagodi Municipal Council's jurisdiction, especially near schools and colleges in Kammasandra, Veerasandra, and Sampi. He emphasized that addressing residents' concerns should be BMRCL's priority and declared that the protest will continue until the "Biocon" name is dropped.

Adding to the sentiment, Hebbagodi Ambarish, president of the Karave Labor Unit, expressed concerns about Biocon's commercial motivations behind the proposed name change. He believes the renaming diminishes the unique identity of Hebbagodi, the sole municipality in Anekal Taluk.

The protest saw participation from various city council members and representatives from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), demonstrating widespread opposition to the renaming.
