Relief For Bengaluru Bars As Liquor Ban Shortened To Two Days Only: Check For Dates Here
In a decision benefiting bars and restaurants in the city, the Karnataka High Court modified the order issued by the Deputy Commissioner regarding the liquor ban. The High Court restricted the ban on alcohol sales to only the voting and counting days.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Hoteliers Association had contested the order issued by the Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner, which banned the sale of liquor from 5 pm on February 15 to 6 am on February 17.

This ban was imposed due to the MLC by-poll for the Bengaluru teachers' constituency scheduled on February 16.
The association argued in their plea that the order was 'unscientific' as there were only 16,000 voters in the said election. They also claimed that the ban order would result in a loss of over Rs 300 crore.
After hearing the plea, the High Court limited the ban to only the voting and counting days, which are February 16 and February 20.
According to the High Court's order, the sale of liquor will be banned from 6 am on February 16 until midnight, and the same will apply on February 20.
MLC Bypoll
The by-poll for the MLC elections is scheduled for February 16. The by-poll was necessitated after BJP MLC Puttanna resigned to contest the Assembly elections from Rajajinagar on a Congress ticket.
Puttanna was defeated by BJP MLA Suresh Kumar in Rajajinagar during the Assembly elections held last year.
Now, Puttanna is contesting the MLC by-poll on a Congress ticket against AP Ranganath from JDS. The BJP has decided to support the JDS candidate after the regional party joined the National Democratic Alliance.
