Record-Breaking Ridership: Namma Metro Sees 8.26 Lakh Commuters On August 6
On August 6, 2024, Namma Metro achieved a record-breaking milestone, recording its highest-ever single-day footfall of 8.26 lakh commuters. A total of 8,26,883 passengers utilized the Metro services on this historic day, surpassing the previous high of 7,45,659 passengers per day recorded in June. Earlier this year, average daily ridership figures peaked at 7.05 lakh in February, 7.01 lakh in January, and 6.88 lakh in December 2023.
Expressing their gratitude, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) took to X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, "We thank commuters for making Namma Metro their travel partner and supporting our efforts towards mitigating CO2."

In June 2024, a total of 2,23,69,774 passengers used the metro services. The previous single-day ridership record was set on June 19, with 8,08,071 passengers. June 3 marked the highest revenue day, with earnings of ₹2.51 crore.
BMRCL is currently working on several projects to expand the metro network. The extended Green Line from Nagasandra to Madavara (BIEC) on Tumakuru Road is expected to be operational by October. Additionally, the much-anticipated Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra is slated for launch by the end of this year, with at least eight trains running at 15-minute intervals.
The ongoing metro projects under phases II, IIA, and IIB are anticipated to further boost ridership. These include new routes from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara and Silk Board to Bengaluru International Airport (KIA), which are expected to attract even more passengers to the metro system.
With these expansions, BMRCL aims to enhance connectivity across the city, making Namma Metro a more accessible and efficient mode of transportation for Bengaluru's residents and visitors.
