Rapido Driver Arrested in Bengaluru After Woman Harassment Video Sparks Outrage

A 28-year-old Rapido driver has been arrested in Bengaluru after a woman accused him of harassment during a ride from Church Street to Sudhamanagar.

The case gained widespread attention when the woman shared her ordeal online, triggering public anger and prompting action from both the police and the company.

Woman's Post Details Shocking Experience

The woman, who is training for an airline cabin crew job, described the incident in a detailed social media post. "It happened so suddenly that I couldn't even process it, let alone record it. When he did it again, I told him, 'Bhaiya, kya kar rahe ho, mat karo,' but he didn't stop," she wrote.

According to her, a passerby noticed her distress and intervened. "A kind man nearby noticed and asked what happened. When I told him, he confronted the captain. The captain apologised and said he wouldn't do it again - but as he left, he pointed his finger at me in a way that made me feel even more unsafe," she added.

The post included a screenshot of a WhatsApp chat with a friend and a short video in which the Rapido driver was allegedly seen attempting to touch her legs.

Police Identify and Arrest the Driver

Following the viral post, Bengaluru Police tracked down the accused, identified as Lokesh, a resident of Muniyappa Layout in Ullal. "The accused Rapido driver was arrested," a senior officer confirmed to The Times of India.

During interrogation, Lokesh reportedly told police that he had back pain and reached behind to rub the affected area while riding - an explanation the police said they are verifying.

Rapido Responds, Assures Action

After the video spread across social media, Rapido issued an official statement on X addressing the incident. "We are concerned to learn about the captain's inappropriate conduct during your recent ride. Your safety and comfort remain our top priorities. Kindly allow us some time to investigate the matter in detail," the company said.

Police officials have stated that an investigation is underway and that strict action will be taken if the allegations are proven.
