Professor GS Shivadurappa cremated with full honours

Bangalore, Dec 28: Rashtrakavi Professor G S Shivadurappa, who died here on Tuesday, was cremated with full state honours at Kalagrama at the Bangalore University campus on Thursday evening. Thousands of mourners gathered at the venue to get a final glimpse of the veteran

and the seating arrangements made for 3,000 looked to be insufficient.

Shivadurappa's elder son GS Jayadeva lit the pyre in the presence of a number of dignitaries, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and former chief ministers B S Yeddyurappa and Jagadish Shettar and other literary figures.

Religious rites were not performed at the funeral, as per the poet's wishes. The police band played the national anthem on the occasion and 21 gun salutes were offered before the last rites were carried out.
The ashes were immersed in River Cauvery on Friday.
