Prajwal Revanna Scandal Case: HD Revanna Denies Allegations Against Son, Calls Them A 'Conspiracy'

Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Revanna responded on Monday to allegations of mass sexual harassment against his son, MP Prajwal Revanna.

In his statement to the media, HD Revanna expressed suspicions of a 'conspiracy' and asserted his resilience, stating that he is not easily intimidated.

"I am aware of the conspiracy at play. I am not one to be frightened and flee. The decision to expel him (Prajwal Revanna) from the party lies with the party high command," HD Revanna said, as quoted by ANI.

Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent MP from Hassan and the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has been accused of involvement in purported sex tapes. Numerous pen drives allegedly containing videos of his sexual assaults were reportedly distributed in Hassan, his Lok Sabha constituency, where he is contesting as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-JD(S) candidate.

Many of the recordings were purportedly made by Prajwal using his mobile phone and are believed to have been filmed at his residence and office. According to the Karnataka police, one pen drive circulated in Hassan contained 2,976 videos, varying in duration from a few seconds to several minutes.

In addition to the allegations related to the sex scandal, an FIR has been filed against Prajwal and his father, Revanna, by their domestic helper, accusing them of sexually harassing her multiple times between 2019 and 2022. The Karnataka government has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the accusations.

Prajwal Revanna has maintained that the videos were doctored and left for Frankfurt on the same day that the Karnataka Police established the SIT.

HD Revanna stated on Monday that the Karnataka government is free to investigate the matter as it sees fit.

"It's their state government. Let them investigate. Prajwal was already planning to go abroad. He was unaware that an FIR would be filed against him," HD Revanna remarked, according to ANI.

He continued, "For the past 40 years under Congress rule, we have faced numerous investigations, including by the CoD or SIT. I haven't discussed this with Deve Gowda. Action will be taken in accordance with the law."

Meanwhile, former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy has commented on the Prajwal Revanna sex video case involving former minister HD Revanna and his son, party Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, stating that it is not a family matter. The father-son duo was booked on Sunday night in a case of sexual harassment and stalking, according to a PTI report.

The case was registered at Hassan's Holenarasipur police station based on a complaint by their cook, as per the PTI report.

The complainant, who claims to be a relative of Revanna's wife Bhavani, alleged that Revanna sexually harassed her when she started working four months ago. She also accused Prajwal of making video calls to her daughter and engaging in "vulgar conversations" with her.

The cook further alleged that there was a threat to her life and the lives of other members of her family.

Who is Prajwal Revanna?

Prajwal Revanna currently serves as the Lok Sabha member from Hassan, Karnataka.

He was the sole JD(S) candidate to emerge victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Hassan, a stronghold of his family. Prajwal, who graduated as a mechanical engineer from the Bangalore Institute of Technology in 2014, was appointed as the JD(S) state general secretary in November 2019.
