Om Shakti Stone Pelting: FIR Filed After Temple Procession Disrupted in Bengaluru

Tension prevailed in Jagjeevan Ram Nagar in Bengaluru on Sunday night after stones were allegedly thrown at devotees pulling a chariot of a deity during a religious procession from the Om Shakti temple, police said.

According to police, a complaint has been received stating that stones were pelted at the chariot while the procession was moving through the area. Preliminary allegations suggest that miscreants from another community may have been involved, though police said the matter is under investigation.

PTI sources said that a child sustained a head injury, while a young girl was also reportedly hit on the head during the incident. Following the stone-pelting, devotees and local residents gathered outside the Jagjeevan Ram Nagar police station, staging a protest and demanding immediate action against those responsible.

The protesters alleged that similar incidents had occurred in the past and insisted that a formal case be registered to prevent recurrence. Police officials later confirmed that an FIR has been registered, and investigation is currently underway.

Security has been stepped up in and around Jagjeevan Ram Nagar to prevent any escalation. West Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Yatish N B visited the police station to assess the situation and oversee law-and-order arrangements.

Police officials said efforts are underway to identify those involved in the alleged stone-pelting. "Necessary action will be taken against those responsible once their identity is established," an officer said, adding that the situation in the area was now under control.

Reacting to the incident, Minister Priyank Kharge said strict action should be taken against anyone found guilty, regardless of their background.

"Whoever the stone pelters are, irrespective of religion, if they are found guilty, they should be put behind bars. We will not tolerate any disturbance that leads to communal disharmony in society," he said.

Police have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as the investigation continues.
