Obscene Video Case: Prajwal Revanna Had Sought Gag Order In 2023, Says Report

Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna, embroiled in an alleged sexual assault video case, openly acknowledged the scandalous sex tapes that stirred controversy across the state. Last June, the JD(S) leader sought a gag order to halt the spread of what he termed "fake news" and "morphed videos."

According to an Indian Express report, in June 2023, Prajwal Revanna approached a Bengaluru civil court against 86 media houses and three individuals regarding the sexual assault videos.

On June 2, 2023, the court granted an injunction to the Hassan MP citing the "threat of broadcasting or circulating fake news and morphed videos against the plaintiff by the defendants."

Over 2,900 videos, allegedly recorded by Prajwal himself, were circulated via pen drives in Hassan ahead of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26.

Local BJP leader G Deveraje Gowda, who was defeated by Prajwal's father HD Revanna in the 2023 Karnataka assembly elections, claimed to have acquired access to the videos through Prajwal's former driver.

The Express report disclosed that Gowda mentioned the "obscene pictures" and the "gag order" at a media briefing in January 2024. The BJP leader clarified that he refrained from releasing the videos out of respect for the dignity and privacy of the women involved.

It is noteworthy that Gowda had also penned a letter to Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra, cautioning about allegations against Prajwal, just months before the NDA announced his candidature from the Hassan constituency.

"If we align with the JD(S) and nominate a JD(S) candidate in Hassan for the Lok Sabha elections, these videos can be used as a 'brahmastra' (weapon), and we will be tarnished as a party aligned with the family of a rapist. This will severely impact our party's national image," the letter stated as quoted by Express.

The "sex video" case surfaced after numerous video clips, allegedly showing Prajwal engaging in sexual misconduct with hundreds of women, were circulated on social media in recent days. The Karnataka MP has been booked in a sexual harassment case based on complaints by his former house help. A case has also been filed against his father, HD Revanna.

Police registered a case under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC, alleging sexual harassment, intimidation, and outraging the dignity of a woman. The complainant accused both HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna of sexually assaulting her.

Prajwal, the nephew of Kumaraswamy and the grandson of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from the Hassan constituency, which went to the polls on Friday. He departed for Germany on Saturday morning.
