Now FIRs Against Drivers Exceeding 130 kmph Starting August 1
Starting August 1, the Karnataka police will begin registering FIRs against drivers exceeding 130 kmph in a bid to promote road discipline and reduce fatal accidents caused by reckless driving. Offenders could face up to six months in prison, a ₹1,000 fine, or both.
Alok Kumar, ADGP of Training, Traffic, and Road Safety, highlighted that speeding is responsible for 90% of fatal accidents. He noted that, on average, about 50 vehicles, including state transport buses, exceed the 130 km speed limit on the Bengaluru-Mysuru access-controlled highway, which is a growing concern.

District police have been directed to monitor vehicle speeds and enforce the speed limit rigorously.
This measure is part of an ongoing effort by the traffic and road safety department to enhance road safety. Recently, the department, supported by district police, has also taken action against drivers using LED headlights improperly and those violating one-way traffic rules.
