New Flyover At Sadahalli Junction To Ease Traffic Jams On Bengaluru Airport Road

To tackle traffic congestion near Sadahalli Junction, 7 kms from KIA, and improve connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans for a new flyover at this critical junction. This initiative aims to streamline travel for airport-bound vehicles, especially those using the Hebbal route.

Kempegowda International Airport is a bustling hub, handling over 750 flights and welcoming more than 100,000 passengers each day. A staggering 80% of these travelers enter the airport through the Hebbal route, highlighting its crucial role in the airport's daily operations. To alleviate congestion, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already invested in a 13-kilometer flyover that provides a smooth, signal-free journey from Hebbal's Esteem Mall to the Yelahanka Air Base.

However, despite these improvements, the Sadahalli Junction near the toll plaza continues to challenge commuters. Here, traffic bottlenecks occur as vehicles slow down for signals and toll collection, causing frustrating delays. To address this ongoing issue, a new flyover is on the horizon, which promises to streamline traffic and enhance the travel experience.

The tender process for this important project will kick off soon, bringing hope for a smoother ride for all who use this vital route.

Relief for Over 2 Lakh Vehicles Daily

The stretch from Hebbal to KIA, spanning 28 km and maintained by NHAI, sees a daily movement of over 2 lakh vehicles. The absence of a flyover or underpass at Sadahalli Junction forces vehicles to halt at both the signal and the toll booth, causing significant congestion. The new flyover will provide uninterrupted movement, greatly enhancing the travel experience for airport commuters.

Currently, vehicles traveling to KIA encounter traffic signals at Kodigehalli, Byatarayanapura, Jakkur, and Allalasandra before reaching the signal-free stretch at Yelahanka Air Force Station. The addition of the flyover at Sadahalli Junction is expected to alleviate delays at this critical point, complementing existing infrastructure improvements along the route.

This development is set to bring significant relief to commuters, ensuring a faster and more seamless journey to one of the country's busiest airports.
