Namma Metro Yellow Line Opening Postponed Again: When Will It Launch?
The Yellow Line of Namma Metro, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra in Bengaluru is likely to be delayed once again, leaving commuters disappointed and frustrated. The Namma metro yellow line was initially scheduled to be inaugurated two years ago, but various reasons, including the Covid-19 pandemic, land acquisition issues, and delays in the arrival of driverless train sets from China, have hindered progress.
Despite earlier promises of a September 2023 opening, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has now pushed the deadline to the end of this year, pending completion of necessary tests and procedures. The BMRCL's Chief Public Relations Officer, Yashavant Chavan, revealed that the Namma Metro Yellow Line will feature driverless trains for the first time, but only one such train has arrived from China so far. Five more trains are expected to arrive from Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems, with deliveries expected to be completed over the next three months.

Chavan added that after all trains arrive, the BMRCL will conduct rigorous testing, including fitness, capacity, and line testing, before inviting the Rail Safety Commissioner for a final inspection. The central authorities will then conduct a comprehensive examination and provide a green signal only if everything is satisfactory. This process is expected to take around five months, pushing the inauguration of the Metro Yellow line to early next year i.e by 2025.
The delay is a blow to citizens who were hoping for relief from Bengaluru's notorious traffic congestion. With the city's population growing rapidly, the need for a reliable and efficient public transportation system has never been more pressing. Commuters will have to wait even longer for the Namma Metro Yellow line to become operational, but BMRCL officials are working hard to ensure that the new line meets international safety standards and provides a smooth ride for passengers.
