Namma Metro Yellow Line Launching Soon: Will All 16 Stations Be Operational? BMRCL's Plan Revealed
Launching in August 2025, Namma Metro's Yellow Line will run between R.V. Road and Bommasandra with 16 stations and and three trains running initially. According to reports the daily ridership is initially projected to be around 25,000 passengers, but this number is expected to climb to 2 lakh once full-scale operations commence next year.
The 19.15-km RV Road to Bommasandra corridor is expected to launch with all 16 stations operational. However, there is still a possibility that only seven key stations will open between the two termini to manage early operational challenges.

"Both options are on the table, but we are inclined towards opening all 16 stations. Mathematically, three trains can cover the full line at 20-25 minute intervals," said a senior Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) official as quoted by DH.
If all 16 stations open, trains will operate from 5 am to 11 pm with a frequency of every 20 minutes, regardless of peak hours, completing around 30-40 round trips per day. Each round trip will take about 80 minutes.
In contrast, if only seven stations open, train frequency could be increased due to the shorter run time and fewer stops.
Revenue & Ridership Forecast
The BMRCL expects a daily farebox revenue of ₹10-15 lakh with just three trains. Once the Yellow Line becomes fully operational with 15 trains, revenue could soar to ₹60 lakh per day, with ridership projected between 1.5 to 2 lakh passengers daily.
Crowd Control Measures in Place
BMRCL is preparing to deploy full staff strength, including train crew and security personnel, from Day 1. To manage potential overcrowding, especially at interchange stations like RV Road, selective opening of station entrances and other crowd-control tactics may be implemented.
"Not everyone will be willing to wait 20 minutes for a train. With only three trains per hour, crowding may be a real issue," said another senior official to DH.
New Train Expected by August 10
A fourth train is expected to arrive by August 10, but it will undergo testing both at the depot and on the mainline for at least two weeks. If passenger services start before its arrival, mainline testing will only be possible at night, potentially delaying its induction into regular service.
CMRS Inspection Underway
On Monday, A M Chowdhary, Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (Southern Circle), began a three-day statutory inspection of the Yellow Line. On Day 1 of the inspection, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) covered Reach 5, completing roughly a quarter of the total inspection process.
The CMRS report is expected within a week. BMRCL will require additional time to address any compliance issues before commencing passenger operations.
BMRCL's Chief Public Relations Officer Yashwant Chavan stated that final authorisation for passenger operations will be granted once the CMRS gives its clearance. When asked about which stations would open first, Chavan said that decision will be made after the CMRS submits its authorisation report.
What's Next?
The final launch date hinges on the CMRS clearance and BMRCL's readiness to implement recommendations. Until then, commuters can expect limited operations, but a major expansion is on the horizon in 2026.
This CMRS inspection marks the final hurdle before the long-awaited Namma metro Yellow Line becomes operational. Initially slated for completion in 2021, the project has faced several delays over the years, but is now inching closer to reality.
