Whitefield-Challaghatta Purple Metro Set to Commence Operations From October 6

Namma Metro Purple Line Status: The eagerly anticipated opening of two new stretches on Bengaluru's purple metro line, namely Krishnarajapuram - Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri - Challaghatta lines, is scheduled for October 6, according to reports. Once these vital metro lines are inaugurated, the entire purple line will become fully operational, a development expected to alleviate the notorious traffic congestion in East Bengaluru.

The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has already conducted inspections on both of these lines, and the KR Puram - Baiyappanahalli section has already received safety clearance. It is anticipated that the Kengeri - Challaghatta line will also obtain CMRS approval tomorrow, with the inauguration planned for the following Friday.

Whitefield-Challaghatta Purple Metro Line Ready To Operate From October 6

A senior official, when interviewed, remarked, "The Kengeri - Challaghatta line is currently awaiting the safety clearance from the CMRS, and we are hopeful of receiving it tomorrow. If all goes according to plan, the purple line will be fully operational starting on October 6."

Recently, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya criticized the state government led by the Congress party for the persistent delays in opening the KR Puram-Baiyappanahalli metro line. He emphasized the potential benefits to the thousands of daily metro commuters and expressed frustration with the government's continued delays despite receiving the necessary approvals and safety clearance from CMRS.

Surya went on to state, "Regrettably, the state government seems to be withholding the commencement of public operations, apparently in anticipation of a visit from either Rahul Gandhi or some other Congress leader for the project's inauguration."

Earlier, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had set a goal to inaugurate the KR Puram - Baiyappanahalli line by mid-July. The completion of the purple line is expected to greatly enhance public transportation in Bengaluru, especially as Whitefield, which hosts numerous tech parks employing people from various parts of the city, will now be more accessible via the 2km stretch on the purple line. This development is also likely to reduce traffic congestion in the Whitefield area as more commuters opt for the metro for their daily commutes to work.
