Namma Metro to Run Late on New Year’s Eve as Bengaluru Prepares for Midnight Crowds

With Bengaluru gearing up for large New Year's Eve celebrations, Namma Metro will operate extended late-night services on December 31, 2025, offering partygoers a safer way to travel home after midnight. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said trains on key corridors will continue well into the early hours of January 1, 2026, alongside special crowd and ticketing measures.

According to BMRCL, the extended operations are meant to reduce road congestion and discourage unsafe late-night driving during New Year festivities. Services on the Purple, Green and Yellow lines will remain active beyond regular hours, with last trains leaving terminals between 1:30 am and 3:10 am, depending on the route.

Late-Night Metro Services Across All Lines

On the Purple Line, the final train from Whitefield will depart at 1:45 am, while the last service from Challaghatta will leave at 2:00 am. The Green Line will see similar extensions, with trains running until 2:00 am in both directions between Madavara and Silk Institute.

The Yellow Line will have the longest service window in one direction. The last train from RV Road to Bommasandra will depart at 3:10 am, while services from Bommasandra towards RV Road will conclude earlier, at 1:30 am, reflecting expected passenger flow patterns.

Majestic to Serve as Night Interchange Hub

BMRCL confirmed that Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Metro Station (Majestic) will function as the primary interchange through the night. The final connecting services towards all Purple and Green Line terminals will depart Majestic at 2:45 am, allowing passengers to switch corridors until that time.

Adjusted Train Frequency After Late Evening

From 11:30 pm on December 31, train frequency will be reduced across the network to manage crowd movement. Purple and Green Line trains will arrive every eight minutes, while Yellow Line services will operate at 15-minute intervals until closing time.

MG Road Station Closed, Ticket Curbs at Nearby Stops

Due to anticipated crowding in the central business district, MG Road Metro Station will be closed from 10:00 pm onwards. Trains will pass through without stopping, and passengers are advised to use Trinity or Cubbon Park stations instead.

To prevent congestion at ticket counters, paper token sales will be suspended after 11:00 pm at Trinity and Cubbon Park. BMRCL has urged commuters to rely on QR tickets, return tickets purchased in advance, or smart cards with sufficient balance.

Focus on Safety and Crowd Control

BMRCL said the combination of extended timings, controlled station access and digital ticketing is aimed at ensuring safe, orderly and efficient public transport during New Year celebrations. Commuters are advised to plan journeys early, follow station announcements and cooperate with metro staff to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
