Namma Metro To Introduce Additional Trains To Ease Peak Hour Rush
As ridership on Namma Metro surges with the city's growing network, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is taking steps to ease congestion during peak hours.
The expansion of Namma Metro has brought a significant rise in passengers, with many experiencing overcrowding and long wait times. BMRCL acknowledges the inconvenience and is actively seeking solutions.

Yashavanth Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer, explained, "Currently, 57 Metro trains are operational in Bengaluru. Initially, these trains operated smoothly. However, with the expansion of the Metro network, passenger numbers have swelled. Despite trains running at intervals of three minutes during peak hours, commuters are facing congestion issues at most Metro stations. This is a matter of concern for us."
To address this, BMRCL plans to introduce additional trains on the Purple and Green lines in the coming days. This aims to improve passenger experience and reduce wait times during peak periods.
Bengaluru Metro To Have 16 Interchange Stations
BMRCL will be adding 16 new interchange stations. These additions, integral to Phases 2 and 3 of the Namma Metro project, are designed to create seamless connectivity across various metro lines, with the aim of encouraging greater use of public transport.
Currently, Bengaluru's only interchange station is the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda station at Majestic, which connects the Purple and Green lines and serves approximately 50,000 daily commuters. The introduction of new interchange stations at strategic locations is expected to distribute passenger flow more evenly and facilitate easier transfers between lines.
The new interchange stations will connect the Purple, Green, Yellow, Pink, and Blue lines, significantly enhancing the metro network's accessibility. Key locations for these new stations include Jayadeva Junction, MG Road, KR Puram, Hosahalli, Mysuru Road, Peenya, RV Road, JP Nagar 4th Stage, Dairy Circle, Nagavara, Kempapura, Hebbal, Agara, Central Silk Board, and Sumanahalli Cross.
