Namma Metro Phase-3 Project: Delmia Flyover In Bengaluru's JP Nagar To Be Replaced With Double-Decker Flyover

The Delmia Circle flyover in Bengaluru's JP Nagar may be demolished to accommodate a new double-decker flyover as part of Phase 3 of the Namma Metro project.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is constructing an elevated corridor on the Outer Ring Road between JP Nagar 4th Phase and Kemapapura. The Delmia flyover, which cost Rs 25 crore and opened in 2018, might be removed to make way for the new structure.

Initially, BMRCL planned to build a viaduct above the existing flyover using portal beams supported by pillars. However, the state's recent proposal for a double-decker flyover along the 32-kilometer route would require demolishing the Delmia flyover to construct large piers for the combined road and metro flyover.

Earlier, with BBMP's consent, BMRCL had planned to build the viaduct using portal beams and had identified 840 sqm of land adjacent to the service road for acquisition. But with the new proposal for a double-decker structure, the Delmia flyover may need to be dismantled for the metro construction, as noted by a BMRCL official quoted by The Times of India.

BMRCL has already completed a double-decker flyover connecting Ragigudda and Silk Board on the Yellow Line Metro, which is partially accessible to motorists. To facilitate this, the Jayadeva flyover was demolished in 2020.

BMRCL's initial plans included constructing double-decker flyovers at two junctions: Kanakapura Road on the ORR (1.4 km) and Kamakhya Junction. The state government has recently proposed extending this to the entire route, and BMRCL is evaluating the feasibility. The state government will fund the road flyover construction.

Phase 3 will feature the 45-kilometer Namma metro Orange Line connecting with other Metro lines and transportation options at 11 locations. BMRCL will also provide 20,940 sqm of parking space at various stations and allocate 52,335 sqm for property development.
