Namma Metro Orange Line: Over 700 Properties To Make Way For 32-Km Bengaluru's ORR

Namma Metro Orange line: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is gearing up for a major expansion with the construction of the 32.2-km Namma Metro Orange Line under Phase III. This new line, which will run from Kempapura to JP Nagar IV Phase, is set to enhance connectivity along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch.

The acquisition of over 700 properties along the proposed line is underway, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,900 crore. These properties are crucial for the construction of Metro stations, entry and exit points, and the viaduct.

The elevated line will follow the median of ORR, and while there are no high-rise buildings in the way, several ground +2 or +3 structures need to be acquired. Some of these properties are owned by defense authorities, government agencies like BMTC, BDA, and BBMP, among others.

The Namma Metro Orange Line will offer interchange facilities with existing and upcoming Metro stations, as well as other modes of transport. It will connect with the Blue Line at Kempapura and Hebbal, providing links to suburban rail and phase III A line of Namma Metro at Hebbal Junction.

On Tumakuru Road, the Namma Metro Orange Line will intersect with the Green Line at the Peenya station, running above it. The Sumanahalli junction will see an intersection with another Orange Line from Hosahalli station to Kadabagere, where BMRCL plans to build a depot spanning 75 acres for both lines.

The Namma Metro Orange Line will also run above the operational Purple Line on Mysuru Road and connect with the JP Nagar Metro station on Kanakapura Road. It will terminate at JP Nagar IV Phase with an interchange facility on Bannerghatta Road.

BMRCL is also considering building a road-cum-Metro flyover at two points along the corridor - Kanakapura road to Sarakki (1.3km) and Ittamadu to Hosakerehalli (1.5km) - as part of its expansion plans.
