A leopard died in a rescue operation in Bengaluru's Kudlu Gate after a four-day search on Wednesday. Forest officials tranquilized the leopard and secured it in a net following a search operation. The leopard succumbed to its injuries at a veterinary hospital.

Initially spotted at the same location on Tuesday night, the forest officials had been closely monitoring its movements. On Wednesday morning, they used two tranquilizer darts, leading to a brief encounter in which the animal inflicted minor injuries on two men before making an escape.

In response, the leopard kept changing its position, prompting forest officials to set up a net perimeter around the abandoned structure to prevent its escape. Skilled marksmen, perched atop a JCB vehicle, fired tranquilizers at the leopard, causing it to attempt to flee from the building. However, it was ultimately captured within the net and subsequently transferred to a secure cage. The forest officials then sent the leopard to Bannerghatta National Park.

The leopard had initially been captured on CCTV footage on October 28, and since then, officials had been diligently working to track its whereabouts. The leopard was spotted near Singasandra, Brookefield, Kudlu Gate, HSR Extension, 1st floor of Cardenza Apartment, IT Park in Kudlu and even near MS Dhoni International School.

The search operation intensified starting Tuesday when a specialised team arrived from Mysuru. With the successful capture of the leopard, the residents of the area can now breathe a collective sigh of relief.
