Kodagu on High Alert: Schools Closed Due to Cyclone Threat
Due to the impact of Cyclone Fengal, heavy rainfall has been affecting Kodagu. As a result, the district administration has decided to close schools and colleges on Tuesday. This decision excludes institutions offering graduate and post-graduate courses. A red alert is in place for Kodagu until 8:30 am on Tuesday, prompting these precautionary measures.
In addition to Kodagu, other districts in Karnataka have also experienced significant rainfall. Tamil Nadu has been similarly affected by the cyclone's heavy rains. Consequently, district commissioners in several areas have opted to declare holidays for educational institutions as a safety measure.

Precautionary Measures Amidst Cyclone
Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts had already announced holidays for schools and colleges on Monday. Following suit, Kodagu district declared a holiday for Tuesday due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions. The decision aims to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst the cyclone's effects.
Kodagu District Collector Venkat Raja confirmed that educational institutions, except those offering graduate and post-graduate programs, will remain closed. This step is part of broader efforts to mitigate risks associated with the severe weather conditions brought by Cyclone Fengal.
Official Statements on School Closures
Anand Prakash Meena, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat, stated in a release: "As a precautionary measure, all Anganwadis and School Colleges (except Graduate and Post Graduate Colleges) in Kodagu district will be declared a one-day holiday on 03.12.2024 (Tuesday) in the wake of the Red Alert issued by the Meteorological Department in the wake of Cyclone Fengal."
The decision reflects a coordinated response from local authorities to address potential hazards posed by the cyclone. By prioritising safety through temporary closures, officials aim to prevent any untoward incidents during this period of intense rainfall.
The situation remains closely monitored by authorities who are prepared to take further action if necessary. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local officials during this time.
