Karnataka Weather: Will It Rain Or Won't? Bengaluru's Weather Forecast Offers A Glimpse Of Hope

Bengaluru residents can expect a continuation of the hot and dry weather this week, with a glimmer of hope for some light rains later in the period. Weather models GFS, ECM, and ICON all suggest a possibility of isolated rain showers on one of the days between April 18th and 20th.

Temperatures expected to peak

Bengaluru rains this week

The first two days of the week, Tuesday and Wednesday, are forecast to be clear and scorching. Temperatures are expected to peak around 36-37°C (96-99°F), so residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.

On Tuesday, Bengalureans experienced a clear sky, with the maximum temperature recorded at 35.9°C. This temperature is 1.9°C above the normal range for this time of year, indicating a departure from the usual weather patterns. Also, the minimum temperature recorded on the same day was 21.6°C, highlighting the city's warmer nights.

Bengaluru rains Forecast: Chance of Isolated Showers Later This Week

The possibility of rain brings a welcome change to the forecast, but it's important to manage expectations. The rain is predicted to be light and isolated, meaning it won't contribute to Bengaluru's seasonal rainfall target of 180mm. Additionally, the exact day on which these showers might occur remains uncertain.

Seasonal Rains Still Elusive

Private weather experts point out that achieving the seasonal rainfall goal requires a more substantial weather pattern shift. This would involve significant cloud development and the formation of a well-defined "convergence zone" across specific regions. These conditions are not currently predicted.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted sparse rainfall in Bengaluru. According to a senior official from IMD Bengaluru, temperatures are currently above normal nationwide, not just in Bengaluru. Despite this, there is no heatwave condition in the state at present. Sparse rainfall is expected in south-interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, over Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This rise in temperatures is attributed to El Nino, which leads to warming of the Pacific Ocean, resulting in reduced rainfall over India. Also, the stable atmosphere is preventing cloud formation. This stable weather pattern is expected to persist in Karnataka for the next three days.

Bengaluru Surrounding Areas May See More Precipitation

While Bengaluru might see only a sprinkle, scattered showers are more likely across South Interior Karnataka (SIK) areas like Mysuru, Chamarajanagara, Ramanagara, and Hassan during this period.

Meanwhile, Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts, especially closer to the weekend, for any changes in the timing or intensity of the possible rain showers.
