Karnataka Weather Update: IMD Issues Cold Wave Warning For North Karnataka

Karnataka is witnessing a shift in its weather pattern, with the rain easing and cold waves intensifying across the state. A significant drop in temperatures is expected, leading authorities to issue a red alert in Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, and Bidar, indicating an imminent increase in cold conditions within the next 24 hours. Concurrently, a yellow alert has been raised for the districts of Yadgir, Raichur, and Bagalkot, signaling caution due to the changing weather.

In several districts, including Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davangere, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysore, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumkur, Vijayanagara, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi, rainfall is forecasted after December 21. This expected precipitation follows a period of declining rainfall and escalating cold conditions across the region. The cold wave will be particularly severe in Bidar, Vijayapura, and Kalaburagi districts, where temperatures could plummet by 6-7 degrees Celsius, underscoring the intensity of the incoming cold weather.

Recent temperature readings across various locales in Karnataka have showcased the diverse climate conditions within the state. In Bidar, the mercury dipped to 7.5 degrees Celsius, showcasing the severity of the cold wave in the region. Meanwhile, temperature recordings from HAL, KIAL, GKVK, Honnavar, Karwar, Shirali, and Panambur illustrate varying degrees of warmth, with maximum temperatures ranging between 26.0 degrees Celsius and 34.6 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures spanning from 14.5 degrees Celsius to 21.5 degrees Celsius. These figures highlight the contrasting weather phenomena experienced across different parts of Karnataka.

The cold wave's impact is further exemplified by specific temperature data from Bidar, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Dharwad, and Gadag. Bidar, for instance, recorded a maximum temperature of 27.5 degrees Celsius and a chilling minimum of 7.5 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Vijayapura and Bagalkot experienced lower-than-usual temperatures, with minimums of 8.5 degrees Celsius and 12.0 degrees Celsius, respectively. Dharwad and Gadag also reported cooler temperatures, aligning with the broader trend of a cooling state.

As the cold wave sets in, with certain districts bracing for intense cold conditions and others anticipating rainfall, the diverse climatic patterns across Karnataka become evident. This weather variation affects residents and visitors differently, depending on their location within the state. With the weather department's advisories in place, individuals in the affected areas are urged to take necessary precautions against the cold and prepare for the expected rainfall in the coming days.
