Karnataka Weather Update: Bengaluru Reports First Rain Of Year 2025, Surprises Residents On Sunday
In Bengaluru, the onset of unexpected rain early in the morning caught the city's inhabitants by surprise, disrupting the plans of many who had looked forward to family outings on this particular Sunday. The city, known for its buzzing activity, was greeted with a cool and damp ambiance as raindrops adorned the streets and parks. While the rain was a source of disappointment for those whose plans were thwarted, others found joy in the sudden change of weather, appreciating the enhanced beauty it brought to their surroundings.
The rain, occurring before the break of dawn, painted the city in shades of green, making it a delightful sight for nature enthusiasts. Areas such as MG Road, Jayanagar, Hebbal, Sultanapalya, and RT Nagar experienced this refreshing downpour, which not only cooled the air but also turned the foliage a vibrant green. Residents taking an early morning stroll in Jayanagar's parks couldn't help but express their happiness at the sight of the lush greenery, a direct result of the rain.

The unexpected rain in Bengaluru was part of a wider weather pattern affecting the state, attributed to a cyclone forming off the eastern coast of Sri Lanka and the southwest Bay of Bengal. This development had a ripple effect across several districts in Karnataka, including the capital, bringing rain and cooler temperatures to regions that celebrated Makar Sankranti under a cloudy sky. The Meteorological Department had predicted rain in six districts, confirming the influence of the cyclone on the state's weather.
Following the morning showers, the Meteorological Department provided an update on the weather forecast for Bengaluru, indicating that the city would experience cloudy skies over the next 24 hours. They also projected a maximum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 17 degrees Celsius, suggesting a continuation of the cool weather brought on by the morning's rain. This forecast was part of a broader assessment that anticipated dry weather in the northern interior of Karnataka and heavy dew in the southern interior till January 24.
Despite the inconvenience caused to weekend plans, some Bengalureans found a silver lining in the rain, reveling in the city's beautified appearance and cooler climate. However, the Meteorological Department has issued a severe cold alert for Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Raichur districts, signaling that the cold wave induced by the rain is expected to persist for two days. This alert underscores the significant impact of the cyclone on the state's weather, beyond the immediate effects experienced in Bengaluru.
