Rain in Kodagu Brings Hope for Bengaluru's Water Crisis

On April 2, rain graced the lands of Kodagu, the origin of the revered Cauvery River. This welcomed shower brings a ray of hope for Bengaluru, which has been grappling with a severe water crisis. The Cauvery River, originating from Kodagu, is a lifeline for the city's water supply.

Bengaluru, known for its burgeoning population and rapid urbanisation, has been facing acute water scarcity for several years. The city heavily relies on the Cauvery River for its water needs, with the river supplying about 80% of the city's water requirement.

The rainfall in Kodagu is a promising sign for Bengaluru's water situation. As the river flows downstream, it replenishes the reservoirs that supply water to the city.

Bengaluru weather forecast today:

The scorching heatwave in Bengaluru shows no signs of relenting, with the city's IMD observatory recording a maximum temperature of 36.6°C. This reading, which is 2.6°C above the normal average, indicates the intensity of the heat wave gripping the city.

The Kempegowda International Airport area also experienced sweltering conditions, with temperatures soaring to 36.5°C, which is 2.3°C higher than usual. Similarly, HAL Airport recorded a temperature of 35.9°C, marking a 2.2°C increase from the normal temperature.

The weather department also predicted that Bengaluru might experience occasional cloudy spells, with mostly clear skies during afternoons and evenings, accompanied by warm weather.

Heat Wave Warning:

Over the next two days, North Interior Karnataka (including Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, and Gadag) is expected to see a significant rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Bengaluru and surrounding areas (including Bengaluru Rural, Urban, Chitradurga, Davangere, Kolar, Mandya, and Mysuru) may experience a temperature increase in some parts. Raichur and Kalaburagi are forecast to have warm nights until April 5th.

Meanwhile, Southern Karnataka, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi districts can expect gusty winds over the next three days. North Interior Karnataka districts (Bagalkot, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Koppal, and Gadag) may see wind fluctuations.
